1st–4th Grade: Building on the Foundation

In 1st through 4th grade, students build on the curiosity, confidence, and creativity sparked in Kindergarten.
Our classrooms encourage deeper thinking, independence, and collaboration as students grow into capable readers, writers, and problem-solvers.
Guided by our **GREAT values—Grit, Respect, Engagement, Awareness, and Thoughtfulness—** they continue to develop bright minds and kind hearts, ready for the challenges ahead.

Our Curriculum:

Reading:

Using Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA), students explore rich stories, history, and science topics that build strong comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. Small groups and personalized lessons help every reader grow — from extra support to advanced challenges.

Writing:

Writing happens every day! Using CKLA, students learn to organize ideas, support opinions, and write with clarity and creativity — from science journals to imaginative stories.

Math:

Through ZEARN, students develop deep understanding with hands-on activities, digital lessons, and small-group teaching. They learn to reason, explain their thinking, and see math as a tool for real-world problem-solving.

Integrated with reading and projects through the CKLA program, students explore big questions, make discoveries, and connect learning to the world around them through experiments and teamwork.

Personalized Learning:

Teachers use data to tailor instruction so every child is supported and challenged at their own pace — growing in confidence every step of the way.
Learning programs are used for both foundational and advanced learning

We celebrate effort, progress, and curiosity. ACA students finish 4th grade as confident, capable learners ready to take on new challenges with joy.
